The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley was established in December 1966, by a small group of local and community business leaders. Recognizing the sore lack of recreational and social services for youth in the northeast San Fernando Valley (Pacoima) and beyond, the concerned leaders committed initial funding and generated a joint grant from the Boys & Girls Clubs of American and the Southern California Boys Club Foundation.

The Club began its operations in Pacoima, in a 300-square-foot storefront space.  In May of 1968, under the leadership and direction of its President/CEO and with the vision and support of the Board of Directors, the momentum needed for the Club's growth began.  To date, the Club is the oldest not-for-profit full service youth agency in Pacoima, operating out of a 30,000-square-foot complex.

For 50 years, the Club has been in the forefront of youth development in the impoverished community of Pacoima, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances. We have actively sought to enrich the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies have failed to reach.  The Club is dedicated to ensuring that our community's disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.

Our longevity in the community is an important characteristic that allows us to have effective programs.  The Club has always been in compliance in meeting funding source requirements, both internally and with grantors; this is reflected in our annual audit.  The Club has generated funding through special events, government grants, and individual and corporate donations.

Club History

The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley has been in its current facility since 1986. Our playground was built on March 21, 2009 by 500 community volunteers, and was sponsored by KaBOOM!, Chrysler Financial, Chrysler Foundation, and the Dodge Ram Challenge winner, Robert Nowaczyk.
