Boys and Girls Club of San Fernando Valley
Family Preservation Program
History
The Club's Family Preservation Program keeps families in the San Fernando Valley together and children safe. This unique program is supported by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
The Boys and Girls Club of San Fernando Valley worked with DCFS in the early design of the Family Preservation Program for the County of Los Angeles. In 1993 the Club organized a network of community providers and became the first lead agency for Family Preservation services in the San Fernando Valley.

How We Help
The Club provides culturally competent services to abused and neglected children and their families. The program identifies and builds upon family strengths to empower families to succeed. A variety of services offered include assessments, intensive in-home counseling, teaching and demonstrating homemaker skills, parenting training, individual and group counseling, mental health services, transportation, financial assistance, linkage and referral services. The Club's Family Preservation staff consists of trained professional and para-professionals. The program services, on average, 1,400 children and families yearly. All families are referred by DCFS or the Los Angeles County Probation Department.

This multi-disciplinary approach to child welfare also involves working in partnership with the Department of Public Social Services, Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles Unified School District and community based organizations.

In-Home Counseling
This service reaches families and children in their homes, our counselors are trained to identify goals, raise self-awareness and move each family toward a positive outcome.

Teaching and Demonstrating Home-Making
Child care skills and home maintenance techniques are provided through examples and discussions.

Parenting Skill Enhancement
Child development, home management and consumer education are practiced in parenting skill achievement classes.

Transportation
The Club provides transportation to families who need assistance. We offer a drop-off and pick-up service to therapy sessions, meetings, appointments and other activities.
